SEPTOPLASTY:
Septoplasty is one of the most frequently performed procedures in the otolaryngology field. Nasal septum means the osteo-cartilaginous wall separating the two nasal cavities. Septoplasty represents the surgical correction of a deviation of the nasal septum that can create a persistent nasal obstruction. The surgery should not be confused with the reduction of a fracture of the proper bones of the nose in which the intended surgical act is aimed only at restoring the initial shape of the nasal pyramid, before the traumatic event occurred, without improving the nasal respiration. It is highly advisable to conduct surgery under general anesthesia, ensuring greater safety for the patient and at the same time, allowing the surgeon to operate more easily. There are no external cuts. At the same time, it is also possible to proceed with the surgical decongestion of the lower turbinates, if they were enlarged to the point of creating a reduction in the normal nasal fan flow. At the end of the surgery, nasal packing is performed and left for at least three days. Ten days of rest after unpacking, are the minimum recovery times, before slowly resuming to regular activities.
